Parapet Inspections For Greater New York City
*Annual Parapet Inspections Are Required As Per NYC Administrative Code*
What is a Parapet?
A parapet is a low wall or barrier that extends above the edge of a roof, balcony, or terrace. It is typically made of materials such as brick, concrete, or metal and is designed to provide safety and protection.
The purpose of a parapet is to act as a protective barrier, preventing people from falling off elevated surfaces like rooftops or balconies. It also helps to shield the roof from strong winds, rain, and other weather conditions, contributing to the building’s structural integrity.
Parapet Inspections
Parapet inspections are essential to ensure the safety and stability of a building. Over time, parapets can deteriorate due to exposure to weather conditions, such as wind, rain, and extreme temperatures, which may lead to cracks, rust, or structural weaknesses. Regular inspection helps identify any damage or signs of wear that could pose a risk to the building or its occupants. Addressing issues early through proper maintenance or repairs can prevent costly damage, improve safety, and extend the lifespan of the structure. Ensuring that parapets are in good condition is vital for the overall integrity of the building.
